What Is Pretrial Diversion Or Deferred Prosecution in Okaloosa County?

by Tim Flaherty on November 30, 2011

PTI (Pretrial Intervention) and DPA (Deferred Prosecution Agreement) are also known as diversion programs. They are used by the Courts in Okaloosa County and throughout Florida to offer first time offenders or persons not likely to violate in the future a chance to resolve their case and walk away with a clean record, no conviction.

Diversion programs are essentially agreements between the defendant and the State of Florida. While the terms and conditions vary depending on the crime or circumstances alleged, the outcome is the same for either agreement. Under the terms of either agreement the defendant performs a series of requirements within a specified time. If those requirements are met, the case will be dismissed. A dismissal means no conviction on your record. To see some of the results we have gotten for clients with PTI or DPAs, click here.

PTI is a negotiated resolution used in felony cases.

DPA is a negotiated resolution used in misdemeanor cases.

PTI or DPA is a great way for someone who made an impulsive decision get their life back on track without having to go to trial or have a conviction on their record.

One of the most appealing things about PTI or DPA is they leave the door open for expungement and record sealing in the future. Please review our page on the Expungement Process.
